What is BOTOX®?

The act of expression, whether in the form of a smile, frown, laugh, or look of puzzlement, requires the contraction of muscles in your face. As we age, these contractions produce permanent lines and furrows deep in the skin...most commonly noted around the mouth, between the eyebrows, and across the forehead. These lines can give the impression of aging, sadness, anger, and fatigue. BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments are designed to not only prevent the deepening of lines during natural facial movement, but to erase the marks of aging--leaving you looking younger, happier, and more refreshed.

What Can a BOTOX® Treatment Do For Me?

Used in both medical and cosmetic treatments, BOTOX® is one of the most recognized brands in cosmetic procedures. A prescription form of botulism, small amounts of BOTOX® are injected into the sites of facial muscle that cause deep lines and wrinkles through repetitive contraction. BOTOX® targets frown lines, crow’s feet, lines across the forehead, and lines found around the mouth and neck.

How Does BOTOX® Cosmetic Work?

BOTOX® is the proprietary name for botulism toxin A, derived from the bacteria Clostridium Botulinum and used as a therapeutic muscle relaxant. Originally approved by the FDA for treatment of muscle spasms around the eye, physicians quickly recognized the cosmetic value of BOTOX®.

BOTOX® has been used for years by physicians to treat signs of stress and aging in the face. When injected into the muscles of the face that cause wrinkles, it relaxes them and creates a smooth and rejuvenated look. Small doses of BOTOX® are injected into targeted areas (muscles) to block the response. The muscles responsible for deep lines and wrinkles are temporarily calmed. As a result, the lines in the skin that make you look tired, sad, or angry are smoothed away.

Who Is a Candidate For BOTOX®?

Anyone looking to enhance their appearance by getting rid of lines or wrinkles is a good candidate for BOTOX®. Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or who have a neuromuscular disorder, should not seek Botox® treatments.

What Does a Botox® Treatment Look Like?

We always begin our cosmetic treatment relationship with a consultation. Our experienced Alpharetta Med Spa staff will discuss your general health, your goals, and a treatment plan to reach those goals.

When it is time for your treatment, the BOTOX® will be injected into targeted facial areas using a fine needle. You may experience mild discomfort during active treatment, but it is both safe and effective. A fast, outpatient procedure, you will be in and out of our office quickly, and will not need to be anesthetized. Post-treatment activity can be resumed as usual right away.

What Are The Side Effects of Botox®?

Botox® side effects include headaches and redness at the injection site. These are mild and go away quickly for most patients. A rare side effect is asymmetry of expression. Our Med Spa staff will discuss any side effect concerns that you might have.
